For our second salon, we’re delighted to be joined by two brilliant creative voices:

Tine Bech — Contributing Artist to Victory Over the Sun

Tine will talk about her creative practice and the ideas, processes and experiences that inform her work, giving us a chance to hear directly from one of the artists contributing to Victory Over the Sun.

Tony Gillan — Artist Director, The Light

Tony will share his vision for The Light, Durham’s contemporary gallery, and talk about the ideas, ambitions and opportunities shaping its future.

Tony will explore what a contemporary gallery like The Light can offer the local creative community — and how artists can be part of that conversation. It’s an opportunity to hear about the thinking behind the programme, find out more about the gallery’s ambitions and consider where your own practice might connect with what The Light is building.

Join Create North and The Light for the second The Light Salon.

Curated by Create North in partnership with The Light, The Light Salons are a new monthly series of relaxed, welcoming events where the North East’s creative community can meet, connect and collaborate. Inspired by the great artists’ salons of the past, these are gatherings for today—informal, inclusive and full of possibility.

What happens when you bring a room full of creative people together?

Ideas are sparked. Collaborations begin. Projects take shape. Friendships are made. Sometimes, all it takes is one conversation.

The Light Salons will bring together artists, makers, musicians, writers, designers, performers, producers and cultural freelancers for an evening of ideas, inspiration and conversation. Expect artist spotlights, workshops, guest speakers, creative provocations and plenty of time to chat over a drink. Whether you’re looking for collaborators, hoping to share a new idea or simply want to meet like-minded people, you’ll find a warm welcome.

Together, Create North and The Light believe creativity flourishes when people have the time and space to connect. The Light Salons are about building a stronger, more connected creative community—one conversation at a time.
