Use your creativity to tell your own story.

Create Your Story is a short series of art workshops for people of all abilities, led by artists Richard Bliss and Jayne Blacklock at Bishop Auckland Town Hall. The workshops will be a chance to try out painting, sewing, drawing and other craft techniques. Richard and Jayne will help you to tell your own stories through your art.  The workshops will also be an opportunity to explore how creativity and imagination can help build confidence, improve mental wellbeing and even inspire new business ideas.

The work created will be drawn together into a new artwork for Bishop Auckland Town Hall, inspired by The Durham Miners’ Gala by Norman Cornish.

Workshops run from 10 am – 12 noon on 21st April, 28th April, 5th May, 12th May & 19th May 2022.

Richard Bliss is an artist/tailor who creates his work in public places.  Richard is interested in hidden histories, particularly the contribution made by working-class people to our historic buildings and how LGBTQI+ histories can be discovered and celebrated.

Jayne Blacklock is an artist and illustrator based out of her studio at the historical Ushaw College. Her career began as a designer in the fashion industry in London and her work is still heavily influenced by a love of colour, pattern and texture. Working in a range of mediums with coloured inks, oil pastels and acrylics amongst her favourites, much of her work adopts a mixed media approach and is inspired by the natural world, especially the people and places she loves. As well as working on her own practice and commissions, she works as a freelance art teacher, working with both adults and young people.

These workshops are part of Creativity Works, an ESIF-funded project for creative people living in the South Durham areas of Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor and Shildon.
