Durham University museums hold many inspirational objects and collections. At this free two-day workshop, discover how these roots in the art of the past and present can lead to new shoots of growth in your business for the future.
Durham Creatives and the Creative Fuse North East team at Durham University are hosting a two-day programme for artists, designers and makers to explore how the University’s arts and heritage collections might inspire the development of new creative products and artefacts, potentially for sale or exhibition within the University.
Over the course of the two day participants will:
- Learn how artists have achieved commercial success through the creation of artefacts and products inspired by art and heritage collections
- View the University’s collections and meet their curators
- Use ideas generation tools and techniques to initiate new product concepts
- Establish commercial relationships with the retail buyers and commissioners at Durham University
- Explore opportunities to exhibit work within the university
- Gain insights about how best to meet buyers’ needs and make effective pitches. We’ll explore commercial issues such as developing products for specific audiences, packaging, promotion, protecting ideas, and costing and pricing work
This workshop will be based at Palace Green Library, home to the University’s special collections and archives. We will also visit some of the other retail and exhibition sites across the University.
Places on this course are limited, please book early to avoid disappointment
